Special Project

Project Title: Parish and Community-based child Protection to Prevent and Treat Child Sexual Abuse in the Diocese of Novaliches

Outcome 2

At the end of the project, at least 7,770 children from 10 parishes and barangays have demonstrated protective behavior skills (can say no, run, tell and seek help) about any sexual problem (sexual touch to rape) they have experienced, learned of and/or witnessed.

Prevention works during COVID-19

The project was only 2 months old when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world unprecedentedly and project re planning was uncertain as everybody was caught unprepared by unforeseen disruption of the deadly disease. To support the efforts of the church to mitigate the direct impact of the pandemic such as unemployment, food security, and access to basic services. These public health issues and social measures were supported through the distribution of 1,500 hygiene kits for the volunteer frontlines of 10 partner parishes.

Also, various child sexual abuse preventive and informative learning materials were distributed to address the potential rise of offline and online sexual abuse during the pandemic. All these interventions and services were delivered as planned through the diocese with the cooperation of the covered parishes.

When community quarantine was imposed, face-to-face project implementation was no longer possible, alternative course action by establishing new strategies and adapt to the situation was develop to implement project activities and for the last 3 years implementations were delivered both online and offline (face to face).

Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic since 2020 up to present, the project has accomplished some milestones.
